Personality:
-On the surface, Rei seems to be an emotionless and distant girl, going through only the basic motions necessary for surviving and carrying out her orders. Many people misunderstand her as having no connection to others. Toji was genuinely very surprised to learn, shortly before becoming an Eva Pilot, that Rei might be concerned about the emotional well being of Shinji. The truth is that Rei has emotions, but very muted ones. She is unfamiliar with these feelings, and hasn't developed her relationships much, causing her to be emotionally stunted and awkward at best. Usually, she keeps quiet with others, responding when necessary in a short, sometimes clipped way. Only when emotions build up or circumstances demand a response does she react, such as when she expresses surprise for feeling gratitude towards Shinji when he cleans her room. She is not emotionless, but she is decidedly emotionally immature and unfamiliar with caring about others. She does not perceive things in terms of what is proper, or how others will react, expressing herself in detached neutrality, occasional curiosity or mild irritation towards those who try to invade her space.

She tells the NERV staff “I can be replaced” after agreeing to sortie in an Eva unit that was badly damaged, shortly before attempting a suicide maneuver against the angel threatening her base. She is a soldier, a tool, a pilot, and thinks of others more as their roles unless they actually establish a connection with her: “Captain,” “The pilot of unit 2,” “classmate,” etc. She exists only to pilot the Eva, to obey the orders of Gendo Ikari and protect them. She rarely thinks beyond the immediate needs of her duties, and prepares herself obsessively to be ready for any duty that might come along. This means that she takes excellent care of her body and mind, studies diligently and practices regularly. She obeys orders without hesitation and never once seems afraid. Up until her final moments, after her canon point, she has not quite admitted to herself that she has personal desires towards others, namely Shinji. She isn't suicidally reckless, but she does not think of herself as valuable enough to merit real consideration.
-She is absolutely without fear. On several occasions, there is a threat to her life, and other than being initially startled, she shows little to no reaction to the danger. Veritable fountains of blood do not solicit more than the blink of an eye. The sight of an angel, even when not actually in an evangelion, does not seem to bother her. Where Shinji pushes others away like the proverbial hedgehog, out of fear of being hurt by them, Rei simply does not care about others and falls into a pattern of obeying orders quickly and easily. When separated from Gendo's power structure, she seeks to return to it quickly if possible. She is not unmotivated, and can act with almost alarming speed and precision when she wishes, but usually she keeps to her official duties and maintains little in the way of outside contact.
-Rei, along with her muted emotions and desires, seems to have a particularly good ability to survive on the most basic levels. She never shows any sign of being depressed, and while she is disassociated with others, she is also not dependent upon them. Though she does place her entire purpose in the hands of Gendo, until after her death at the hands of Armisael and subsequent regeneration in the clone chamber, she does not depend on him for her everyday life. She can take care of herself, is very self-reliant and unafraid in almost any situation.
-By her current canon point, Rei is beginning to not fully trust Gendo's motivations or intentions. While still willing to sacrifice herself for him, she is growing increasingly attached to Shinji. Others believe she is closer to Gendo than she actually is, the man not really opening up even to the clone of his dead wife. However, the fact that Shinji has gone out of his way to protect and value her as a person, that Misato has begun to do the same to a far lesser extent, has had an impact on her. Others do not view her as a tool, and while this is still a default for her, the beginnings of a small rebellious streak in her is forming. That part of her will one day come to see Gendo's vision as the self-serving one that it is, and turn on him in favor of Shinji, but for now her loyalty to him is effectively absolute.
Abilities/Skills:
-Excellent Mecha Pilot, familiar with all technology involved in its use.
-Trained Soldier, with full experience in the use of both melee weapons and firearms. Though she generally operates them through the Evangelion unit, and we do not see her in hand to hand combat, she clearly demonstrates an ability to handle herself in navigating the NERV facilities in times of crisis with the same military precision and is in peak physical condition.
-Well educated for her age, showing no issues with advanced courses, where both Shinji and Asuka receive concerns from Misato (due to Asuka's language barriers primarily, as she is a college graduate). Exactly how educated she is, however, is difficult to tell.
-Absolutely fearless.
-Angel/Human Hybrid – the clone of Yui Ikari and Lillith, Rei is capable of producing an active AT field herself without the aid of an Evangelion unit. This acts, normally, as a psychically projected force field, capable of being used defensively or offensively (the latter usually to break down other barriers), along with granting a certain amount of telekinetic flight.

[Rei wasn't the sort to do this often. Contacting others didn't come naturally to her, and she wouldn't do it unless she was told to do so normally. It wasn't that she found contacting others that unpleasant, but more that there was really no need to try and actively reach out to someone. People filled silence with noise, and now that they were trapped in a world where noise could get them killed, they replaced it with unending questions about things that didn't really matter in the long run.
Still, there was always a chance that she would find herself in this situation. She'd run across a problem that needed help, and it was too specialized for her to handle on her own. That was enough to get her to 'speak up' and try to get ahold of someone. True, the sandpaths were going to be the usual limit for travel, but there was bound to be a need to forage further and further afield the longer they were here, which meant that detailed maps were pivotal, especially current ones.]
I think that we need better maps. Is anyone a cartographer? I will assist them.
[As she hit send, she privately hoped that she didn't get responses from people who were convinced that she was too young to be putting herself at risk. It was, though expected, a little irritating at times.]
